What are fascias and what do they do?
A fascia is a straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. It's mounted at the point where the outer walls of the house meet the roof, it can also be called roofline. You can have different material fascias uPVC, PVC-u and PVC-ue, whatever the material, they all do the same job and that's holding the gutter in place and supporting the lower edge of the bottom row of tiles.
What are soffits and what do they do?
The soffit board is generally behind the fascia; you can see it the most from street level. Most soffits contain air vents to allow a steady stream of air to keep the loft ventilated. If your loft space isn't ventilated adequately, you may have excess condensation which can cause damage to your belongings and cause timber decay.
What are gutters and what do they do?
A gutter is a component that carries water away from your house. When it rains and water flows down your pitched roof, instead of it spilling over the front of your home or through an open window. The rainwater then gets channelled into your gutter and taken to your downpipe, which empties the water into a grid. Over the years gutters are made from numerous materials including, but not limited to: cast iron, UPVC, cast iron, steel. The most popular gutter material will be UPVC due to its durability and low production costs.
